ROILA – Universal spoken language for robots

Researchers at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands are working on a spoken language for robots, built with both human brains and robot simplicity in mind. ROILA, or Robot Interaction Language, is intended to be easy for people to learn and easy for robots to understand.

Some phrases and words  in ROILA:

Pito loki wikute tuji – “I like fruit”

butij pimo lupuma – “get that bottle”

Pito leto fosit webufo buno besati -  “I can go left or right.”

Pito fosit jifi bubas – “I walked to the house.”

kisate – “attack”

kalutu – “army”

tofomu – “destruction”

fekopu – “gun”

wobiju – “harmony”

loki – “love”

[While I suspect the effort would be better spent improving speech recognition for existing languages, the geek factor of being able to speak a robotic language cannot be dismissed... I already want to learn it!]

There is a video HERE where you can hear the language being spoken.
